Achieve Australia has been providing services and support for people with a disability since 1952. Their driving principle is to support people with a disability to learn and maintain life and work skills, develop relationships, make choices about their lives and participate in community activities.
Challenge
Achieve Australia operates in a NSW disability sector that has been substantially redrawn by the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme. For an organisation with deep community roots and a long-established service model, the shift to an individualised, market-based funding environment raised familiar questions for the board and senior team: how to preserve the values and quality the organisation is known for while operating in a more contestable market, and how to set the strategic direction the next decade will require.
Approach
Australian Strategic Services worked with the leadership team on strategic planning and governance work appropriate to a disability services provider operating at scale. The engagement focused on positioning the organisation for the post-NDIS environment, clarifying strategic priorities and supporting the board in its governance role through a period of significant sector change.
Outcome
The strategic conversation produced an agreed direction the board, CEO and senior team could implement, with clear priorities for service development, organisational capability and governance practice. Achieve Australia continues to deliver disability services across NSW.
