AUSTSWIM is Australia’s national organisation for the teaching of swimming and water safety. AUSTSWIM has developed a quality aquatic education program for those wishing to enter the aquatic industry as a teacher of swimming and water safety.
The AUSTSWIM accreditation is the industry standard for swimming and water safety teachers and is delivered and recognised in each state and territory of Australia and many countries overseas.
Challenge
As a national peak body operating through state and territory member organisations, AUSTSWIM faced the governance and strategic questions familiar to federated bodies: aligning national strategy with state interests, clarifying roles between the national board and member organisations, and positioning the accreditation as the trusted standard in a changing aquatic industry.
Approach
Australian Strategic Services worked with the AUSTSWIM board and senior team on governance review and strategic direction work suited to a national member-based body. The engagement covered governance arrangements between the national entity and member organisations, strategic priorities for the accreditation and program, and the leadership conversations that hold a federated structure together.
Outcome
The work supported the board in clarifying its strategic direction and the governance arrangements that underpin AUSTSWIM’s national role in swimming and water safety education.
